Game 1 of Metallurg Magnitogorsk vs. Lev Prague Set for Friday, April 18 at 9 a.m. EDT; Game 2 Sunday, April 20 at 7 a.m. EDT
Metallurg Magnitogorsk, the top-ranked team in KHL’s Eastern Conference, and Lev Prague, the third-place team in KHL’s Western Conference, both won their respective Conference Finals by 4 games-to-1 margins and now will meet in the final series of the Kontinental League Gagarin Cup playoffs.
The Gagarin Cup is the KHL’s post-season tournament, named for famed Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
The Gagarin Cup finals start in Magnitogorsk, with Games 1 and 2 set for Friday, April 18 and Sunday, April 20. Then the series—and ONE World Sports’ live and exclusive coverage—shifts to Prague for Games 3 and 4 on April 22 and 24.
This is the first appearance in the Gagarin Cup Finals for both Metallurg Magnitogorsk and Lev Prague. ONE World Sports commentators for coverage of the series will include Tom Laidlaw, a former defenseman with National Hockey League teams including the New York Rangers.
“The KHL has emerged as one of the best professional hockey leagues in the world thanks to the high quality of play and superior skill level,” Laidlaw said. “The average NHL fan is aware of Ilya Kovalchuk’s departure to the KHL, but the league has attracted many other stars.”
